No hot water coming from the shower or taps? A number of things could possibly be the cause. Here’s a few steps you can follow to try and fix hot water loss. But if you’re not confident with DIY (or the steps don’t help), give us a call and we’ll help you.
1. Check the power
Ensure that the power supply to the boiler is on, and that the fuse is working correctly. If you find that the fuse has blown, you can replace this yourself to see if this fixes the problem. If a new fuse doesn’t help, the problem may be of a more serious nature meaning it’s probably worth contacting a qualified heating engineer.
2. Check out your gas or oil supply
Make sure that the gas or oil supply is turned on. If you suspect a problem with your gas supply, contact your gas supplier. If you use oil, check there’s enough oil in the tank by reading the gauge.
3. Is your programmer and thermostat working?
Ensure that the programmer is in the ‘on’ position and that the thermostat is turned up high enough.
5. Is your pump running smoothly?
Have a quick check to make sure that your pump is running by feeling the side of the pump for motion. If it doesn’t appear to be running, give us a call and we’ll be happy to help.
6. Check the pilot light
If your boiler has a pilot light, check that it is lit. If it’s switched off, consult your manufacturer’s manual, or there may be some instructions on a sticker located on the boiler panel with directions on how to relight it.
If none of these checks solve the problem then it’s time to call in a Gas Safe Registered heating engineer.
